Former GCRA leader meets with Buddhist Church President

Most Venerable President of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s Executive Council Thích Thiện Nhơn hosted a warm reception for visiting Senior Lieutenant General Phạm Dũng, former Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA), on March 2 at the VBS’s Southern Office in Ho Chi Minh City. 

During the reception, the Buddhist leader spoke highly of the responsibility and support shown the former GCRA chairman toward religious organizations in general and the Buddhist church in particular in his four-year serving post as head of the government body on religious affairs. The Buddhist venerable also presented the Vietamese character of heart “TÂM” and asked for his continuous support to Buddhistm.

In his speaking, former Chairman Phạm Dũng, who is also former deputy minister of home affairs and former deputy minister of public security, expressed hope that the Vietnam Buddhist church would continue promoting social integration while developing in the country.

Earlier, Senior Leutenant General Phạm Dũng met with Most Venerable Thích Trí Quảng, Deputy Patriarch of the Vietnam Buddhist Sanga cum Rector of of the Buddhist Institute tin Ho Chi Minh City, and had exchanges with the host on current Buddhist issues in Vietnam and Buddhist perspectives on the current social life in the country.

Most Venerable Thích Trí Quảng welcomed Senior Leutenant General Phạm Dũng.
