Exchange experience conference on religious affairs between Vietnam and Laos opens

An exchange experience conference on religious affairs between Vietnam and Laos was opened on September 25 in Hanoi.

Attending the conference’s opening ceremony included Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Vũ Chiến Thắng and Vice Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs Nguyễn Tiến Trọng.

The Laos delegation included 30 cadres from the national development front and home affairs sectors led by Mr. Khanonglid Sisombun, Director of the Research and Training Center under the Laos Central Front for National Development and Mr. Khamnghien Sengsulinha, Deputy Director of the Ethnic and Religious Affairs under the Laos Ministry of Home Affairs.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister Vũ Chiến Thắng recalled the state visit of Lao General Secretary cum President Thongloun Sisoulith and his wife to Vietnam last month as a proof to the great friendship and the special solidarity between Parties, States and peoples of the two countries.

He also highlighted that Vietnam and Laos have exchanged over 100 delegations at all levels and signed many cooperation documents in the first eight months of 2024.

According to the official, in the field of religion, the two countries have signed and implemented cooperation agreements on religious affairs since 2007, most recently the memorandum of understanding for 2022-2026 period between the Vietnam Government Committee for Religious Affairs Ministry and the Laos Central Front for National Development.

Particularly, the two sides has have sent 14 exchange delegations, co-organized six exchange experience conferences on religious affairs for nearly 100 cadres of the Laos national development front and provincial authorities in Vietnam and one conference on religious affairs between border provinces. The Vietnam Government Committee for Religious Affairs also sent 05 delegations to participate in training courses on religious affairs held by Lao Central Front for National Development in Laos.

The exchange experience conference on religious affairs 2024 for Lao delegation held in Vietnam is an opportunity for agencies tasked with religious affairs of the two countries to share practical experiences in handling with new challenges and issues of the religious life in the two countries.

The exchange experience conference 2024 on religious affairs between Vietnam and Laos runs until September 30 with eight topics delivered by officials from Vietnam Government Committee for Religious Affairs and concerning central agencies, and field trips to several localities in Vietnam.
