The Bac Giang provincial People’s Committee held a ceremony on January 29 to receive a certificate honouring the Xuong Giang victory historic relic site as a special national site.

Participants at the event recalled November 1427 when Lam Son insurgents, led by King Le Loi, defeated tens of thousands of Ming troops, forcing the invading army to grant independence to Dại Viet.

Xuong Giang victory is a glorious milestone in the country’s history as it put an end to Ming Dynasty’s 20-year dominance over Dai Viet. The Xuong Giang Festival is held on the sixth day of the first Lunar month each year to remember the historical event.

At the ceremony, the provincial authorities announced the opening of Bac Giang cultural and tourism week 2020.

Taking place until February 12, the week features dozens of cultural, tourism and sporting activities across the province, including a display of Bo Da Pagoda’s woodblocks at Bo Da pagoda in Viet Yen district, the Tay Yen Tu Spring Festival in Son Dong district, a rural market and a food festival in Bac Giang province, as well as a mountain conquering contest to peak Non Vua in Yen Dung district.

Visitors can also take part in joyful spring festivals which will be observed on the occasion in Hiep Hoa, Tan Yen, Yen The and Luc Ngan districts.
