Exchange meeting on religious practices of foreigners legally residing in Vietnam

The Institute of Strategy and Policy on Ethnicity and Religion of the Vietnam Academy for Ethnic Minorities and the Ethnic and Religious Affairs Department in Ho Chi Minh city held on November 14 an exchange meeting on religious practices of foreigners legally residing in Vietnam.

Attending the event included Vice Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) Nguyễn Tiến Trọng, Head of the Strategy and Policy on Ethnicity and Religion Institute Lê Thị Liên, representatives of the Ethnic and Religious Affairs Department and religious dignitaries and monks of Catholicism, Buddhism, Protestantism, Caodaism, Vietnam Adventist Church, Islamic community, BaHa’i Faith and Vietnam lay Pure–land Buddhism.

According to the GCRA, Vietnam currently has about 8,000 for foreigners of more than 40 different nationalities which are residing and performing religious practices at 67 registered religious group’s activities.

Overview of the meeting

Speaking at the meeting, Vice Chairman Nguyễn Tiến Trọng stated that the meeting was hosted for gathering comments of religious organizations in order to clarify the status and religious practices of foreign individuals and groups in Vietnam, contribute to the work of building and implementing religious legal policies, and exchange experiences in guiding religious followers and religious activities involving foreign elements in Vietnam.
