The Ministry of Ethnic and Religious Affairs held on 26 November a consultation conference with religious dignitaries, deacons and representatives of belief establishments on the policy dossier for the amended Law on Belief and Religion.

The event was chaired by Deputy Minister of Ethnic and Religious Affairs Nguyễn Hải Trung and attended by Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) Vũ Hoài Bắc, Chairpersons of the GCRA Trần Thị Minh Nga and Nguyễn Tiến Trọng, religious dignitaries, deacons and representatives of belief establishments from cities and provinces of Hanoi, Hung Yen, Phu Tho, Bac Ninh, Quang Ninh and Thanh Hoa.

During the conference, participants gave many comments on three key policy updates in the amended law, focusing on belief and religious activities in cyberspace, administrative procedures and digital transformation in the field of belief and religion.

The draft also sets out the duties of those involved, including individuals, organizations, state agencies, telecom companies, and internet service providers, to improve flexibility, ease of use, and timely access to information that meets the public’s needs around belief and religion.

Concluding the event, Deputy Minister Nguyễn Hải Trung asked the drafting board and the editing group of the revised Law on Belief and Religion to gather comments raised by the conference participants for early completing the policy dossier for the amended Law on Belief and Religion and submitting to the Government as scheduled.
As reported, the Law on Belief and Religion was adopted by the National Assembly of Vietnam on November 18, 2016, and came into effect on January 1, 2018.
