Two Vietnamese repatriated from Myanmar and the United Arab Emirates became the latest Covid-19 cases on Thursday, according to the National Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control.
The latest cases bring the patient tally to 1,407.
Patient 1,406 is a 39-year-old man in Thanh Ha District of the northern province of Hai Duong.
He flew from Myanmar to the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho on December 12 and was quarantined in Bac Lieu Province.
The patient is being treated at the Bac Lieu General Hospital.
Patient 1,407 is a 27-year-old woman in Ha Noi’s Gia Lam District.
She took flight VN88 from the United Arab Emirates to Cam Ranh airport in the south central coastal province of Khanh Hoa on December 8 and was quarantined in the nearby province of Phu Yen.
The patient is being treated at the Phu Yen General Hospital.
She is the 6th passenger onboard the flight VN88 to have been confirmed positive for the virus.
The same day, 11 more patients were declared free of Covid-19, raising the total recoveries to 1,263.
The Covid-19 pandemic is still evolving swiftly around the world with total infections surpassing 75 million, including 1,663,258 fatalities, said the Ministry of Health.
Though Viet Nam has effectively managed the pandemic, the risk of infections remains high. That is why the nation is stepping up efforts in vaccine research and development.
Among the four vaccines under development by local producers, Nanocovax entered the first phase of human trials on December 17./.
