The Vietnam Catholic Church has released the Catholic Dictionary in Vietnamese at a ceremony held on December 09 in Ho Chi Minh City.

The releasing ceremony was presided by Archbishop of the Ho Chi Minh City Archdiocese Paul Bùi Văn Đọc.

According to Archbishop Paul Bùi Văn Đọc, the release of the dictionary aims to help Catholics in Vietnam improve their understanding about basic concepts of catechism, the Bible and theology, and avoid misunderstandings in using  the Christian terminology.

As introduced by Priest Peter Nguyễn Chí Thiết, Chief Editor of the Catholic Vocabulary Board, this dictionary has 2,022 most common words quoted from the Vietnam Catholic Church’s catechism, and plus Sino-Vietnamese words which are still in use. 150 experts in fields of theology, Bible, ethics, liturgy, language and culture have participated in compiling and editing this dictionary during a period of nine years.
