Vietnam Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints holds general conference

The Provisional Representative Committee of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter -day Saints in Vietnam held its 2nd congress for the term 2016 – 2019 on April 24 in Hanoi city.

Acting Director of the Protestant Affairs Department under the Government Committee for Religious Affairs Thiều Thị Hương and representatives from Hanoi city authorities also joint the event.

The congress reviewed the Church’s activities in the past two years. As reported at the event, during the first term, the Provisional Representative Committee have conducted many social and charitable activities including free English classes, medical charity programs. The church is also committed to provide more wheelchairs to disabled people, work on clean water projects and take care of pregnant women and infants.

The one-day congress elected five members of the new-term Provisional Representative Committee of the Church and Mr. Hoàng Văn Tùng was re-elected  as Committee Chairman.

The congress also discussed about current operating regulations of the Provisional Representative Committee and proposed the recognition of a representative committee for the current Provisional Representative Committee. The congress also unanimously changed the working term from two years to three years.

In Vietnam, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter -day Saints was introduced  in 1962, currently the church has about 1,000 followers, mostly in Hanoi,  Ho Chi Minh City and other provinces.
