Vietnam Buddhist Sangha urges Buddhists to stay at home, strictly observe 5k message

The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) issued on July 19 a formal note calling all of monks and nuns to strictly observe the 5K recommendation and the Prime Minister’s Direction No.16 for preventing the spread of Covid-19 pandemic.  

In the formal note sent to the VBS’s executive committees, Buddhist worshipping places, and monks and nuns in provinces and cities, the VBS’s central executive council asked monks and nuns to stay at home and do not go out unless absolutely necessary, strictly observe the 5k recommendation and do not gather in large numbers.

The VBS’s central executive council requested Buddhist worshipping places in the country to hold daily prayers for peace at pagodas, and encouraged lay Buddhists to stay at home to join these prayers online.

In addition, Buddhist worshipping places in the country were asked to recite the Sutra of Medicine Buddha, praying for a successful fight against COVID-19 pandemic, as well as ring bells three times on July 27 for commemorating the 74th Anniversary of Invalids' and Martyrs' Day.

Formal note of VBS’ central executive council dated July 19

The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha also called on monks, nuns and lay Buddhists to support medical supplies and equipments to Ho Chi Minh city and localities with have increasing numbers of Covid-19 cases, and asked Buddhist worshipping places toclosely collaborate with the Vietnam Fatherland Front and concerning agencies in supporting disadvantaged people affected by COVID-19 epidemic.
