The first general meeting of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s chapter in Nghe An province’s Quynh Luu district convened on October 26 to formally receive the establishment decision from the provincial authorities.
Distinguished guests at the meeting taking place in An Thai pagoda included Most Venerable Standing Vice President of the VBS’s Executive Council cum Chairman of the provincial VBS’s executive committee Thích Thanh Nhiễu, Senior Venerable Acting Head of the VBS’s Committee for Cultural Affairs cum Standing Vice Chairman of the provincial VBS’s Executive Committee Thích Thọ Lạc, and representatives from provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) committee, committee for religious affairs and committee for solidarity of Vietnamese Catholics.
Provincial VBS’s executive committee presents certificates of merit to outstanding groups and four individuals
During the event, the provincial committee for religious affairs presented the establishment decision to the VBS Chapter in the province’s Quynh Luu district.
The meeting also elected five members to the executive board of the VBS chapter in the district for the 2018-2013 tenure, with Senior Venerable Head of the provincial VBS’s office Thích Minh Hải elected as the board Chairman.
On the occasion, the provincial VBS’s executive committee presented certificates of merit to two groups and four individuals for their outstanding achievements in Buddhist affairs. The district authorities also handed over certificates of merit to four Buddhist dignitaries who made practical contributions to patriotic movements in the locality.
Quynh Luu district is home to over 3,000 Buddhist followers with 7 Buddhist worshipping temples, and since 2011 Buddhist followers in the district have contributed a total value of over VND 10 billion to social charities in the locality.
