Vietnam Assemblies of God convenes second congress

The second congress of the Vietnam Assembles of God Church has been successfully held on June 27-28 at the church’s temporary office located in Ho Chi Minh City’s Thu Duc district.  

The national congress has drawn the participation of Pastor Dương Thành Lâm, General Superintendent of the Vietnam Assemblies of God church, and the 300 delegates representing followers of the church throughout the country.

Distinguished guests at the event’s opening ceremony included Director of the Protestant Affairs Department under the Government Committee for Religious Affairs Thiều Thị Hương, representatives of other religious organizations in the city, and foreign nationals.

The two-day national gathering reviewed affairs of the church since 2010, mapped out working plans for the new term, and undertook spiritual and theological training.

The congress also approved the Assemblies of God church’s new charter and elected personnel to the church’s central executive committee in the second tenure with Pastor Dương Thành Lâm reselected as General Superintendent of the church for the new term.

According to a report of the Vietnam Assemblies of God church, the church currently has about 36,500 followers with 477 congregations located in 44 cities and provinces over the country, of which 105 congregations have registered collective religious activities with local authorities and 16,000 followers belong to ethnic minorities such as H'Mong, Dao, Chau ro, Ma, M'nong, K'Ho, Ede, Rang lai, etc.
