VFF Vice Chairman Le Ba Trinh receives U.S. Ambassador-at-large for International Religious Freedom

Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee Lê Bá Trình hosted a reception for visiting U.S. Ambassador-at-large for International Religious Freedom David Saperstein on March 28 in Hanoi city.
The Vice Chairman informed the guests on the involvement of religious organizations in society and their contributions to educational and medical activities, social sponsoring, vocational training, HIV/AIDS prevention and environmental protection.

He also shared information about the process of the drafting law on belief and religion. According to the Vice Chairman, the draft law is expected to be passed in the end of 2016 by the Vietnam National Assembly. The draft law on belief and religion has been added a number of new points, including the guarantee of freedom of belief and religion according to spirit of the Constitution 2013, and as a human right for every Vietnamese, instead of only Vietnamese citizens as before, he said.
For the guest part, Ambassador David Saperstein stated that in recent years, Vietnam has made progresses in legal reform and human rights. In particular, the progresses on religious freedom and religious life have expressed through the engagement of religious organizations in educational activities, charitable activities, etc.
