President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Nguyễn Thiện Nhân led a delegation to visit the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) on May 17, on occasion of the Vesak 2016 (B.E. 2560).
The delegation included representatives of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Mass Mobilization, the Government Committee for Religious Affairs, the Vietnam Women’s Union and the Hanoi city People’s Committee, and dignitaries of Catholicsm, Caodaism and Protestantism.
Welcoming the guests at the VBS Central Northern Office at Quan Su Pagoda in Hanoi were Most Venerable Vice Chairman of the VBS Executive Council Thích Thanh Nhiễu, and Buddhist dignitaries of the VBS’s Office.
Speaking at the visiting reception, President Nguyễn Thiện Nhân extended greetings to the Central VBS Executive Council and Buddhist followers throughout the country on occasion of the Buddha Birthday’s Festival 2016 (B.E. 2560). He also urged the dignitaries to continue encouraging Buddhist monks, nuns and followers to promote fine traditions of Buddhism, as well as proactively engage in social, charitable activities for environmental protection and the national construction and defense.
