Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee Nguyễn Thiện Nhân presented gifts to Khmer monks and people in the city on April 16 on the occasion of their traditional Chol Chnam Thmay festival.
During his visit to Can Tho city, the Association for Solidarity of Patriotic Buddhist Monks and Muni Rangsay pagoda, VFF Chairman Nguyễn Thiện Nhân extended his greetings for a new year full of peace, health, success and happiness for all Khmer people.
He expressed his delight at Can Tho city’s effort in caring for Khmer people and realizing policies on ethnic groups and religion.
He called for closer co-ordination between the Can Tho city Association for Solidarity of Patriotic Buddhist Monks and the VFF in bettering the work of poverty reduction, improving cultural life for residents, and raising funds for the construction of the Khmer Theravada Buddhism Institute in the city.
Most Venerable Chairman of the Can Tho city Vietnam Buddhist Sangha Executive Committee Đào Như expressed his thanks to the VFF and relevant ministries and sectors for their support in improving the lives of local citizens.
Currently, Can Tho city is home to nearly 5,119 Khmer ethnic households with 21,000 people, mainly residing in Thoi Lai and O Mon district.
