VBS’s chapter in Lang Son holds 3rd congress

The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) Chapter in Lang Son province convened on September 28 the 3rd congress (the 2017-2022 tenure). 

Attending the congress included Most Venerable Standing Vice President of the VBS’s Executive Council Thích Thanh Nhiễu, Most Venerable Vice President of the VBS’s Executive Council cum Head of the VBS Chapter’s Executive Committee in Lang Son province Thích Quảng Tùng, representatives from the VBS’s executive committee in neighboring provinces, and large numbers of Buddhist monks, nuns and followers in the locality.

Also present at the event were Chairman of Lang Son provincial People’s Committee Phạm Ngọc Thưởng and a representative of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs.

The congress elected 30 Buddhist dignitaries to the VBS’s Executive Committee of the VBS’s Chapter in Lang Son for the 2017-2022 term, in which Most Venerable Thích Quảng Tùng was selected as head of the committee.

As reviewed at the event, Lang Son province currently has 13 Buddhist worshipping temples. During the last term of 2012-2017, Buddhist monks, nuns and followers in the province contributed a total value of over five billion VND to social charities in the locality, including the construction of semi-boarding classes for pupils in remote areas and presentation of gifts to the poor.

Over the past years, the VBS’s Executive Committee in Lang Son province built and restored many Buddhist worshipping places, including Tan Thanh Pagoda located near Tan Thanh border gate with China.

On the occasion, the provincial VBS Chapter received the Third-class Labor Medal from the State President. The Central VBS’s Executive Council and the provincial People’s Committee also handed over certificates of merit to Buddhist groups and individuals for their outstanding contributions in Buddhist affairs and social charities during the 2012-2017 tenure.
