The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) Executive Council held on June 11 a conference to review Buddhist affairs in five Southeastern provinces.
The event taking place in Tinh Hoi pagoda in Dong Nai province saw the participation of Most Venerable Vice President of the VBS Executive Council cum Chairman of Committee for Clergy affairs Thích Thiện Tánh, Most Venerable Chairman of the VBS Legal Committee Thích Huệ Trí, Most Venerable Deputy Secretary cum Chief of the VBS’s Southern Office Thích Huệ Thông, and representatives of the VBS executive committees in five provinces of Dong Nai, Ba Ria – Vung Tau, Binh Duong, Binh Phuoc and Tay Ninh.
Guests of the event included Deputy Director of the Southern Religious Affairs Department under the Government Committee for Religious Affairs Trà Quang Thanh, Chairman of Dong Nai provincial Committee for Religious Affairs Nguyễn Quốc Vũ and leaders of the religious committees of the five provinces.
During the conference, representatives from the provincial-level VBS Executive Committees pointed out some difficulties in Buddhist practices and the implementation of the Law on belief and religion and its guiding Decree 162, including the recognition and management of Buddhist worshipping places, the participation in training and religious activities abroad of monks and nuns; judicial certification of monks and nuns expected to be appointed, elected, and the transfer of monks and nuns to new operating places.
At the event, Deputy Director Trà Quang Thanh and leaders of the religious committees in the five provinces explained the practical issues relating to legal procedures raised by the VBS’s executive committee in the five localities.
