VBS responds to PM’s initiative on planting one billion trees

The central Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s Executive Council issued on February 22 a dispatch responding the initiative of the Prime Minister on planting one billion trees in the next five years.  

According to the dispatch, the VBS executive council called on monks and nuns of the central VBS committees and institutes, VBS executive committee in provinces and cities, Buddhist worshipping establishments, and Buddhist educational institutions to implement the “Lunar New Year tree-planting” movement, as well as plant trees and protect forests for global climate change adaption, practically contributing to the construction and sustainable development of the country.

Earlier, the central VBS executive council approved planting trees and protecting forests for environmental protection and climate change response as one of key Buddhist affairs in 2021,, and the PM issued on December 31, 2020 the Directive No.45 on organizing “Lunar New Year tree-planting” movement and strengthening forest protection and development right from the beginning of 2021.
