VBS requests Buddhist services for peace held in solemn, economic manners

Most Venerable Thích Thiện Nhơn, President of the Central Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s Executive Council has signed a formal note guiding the organization of Buddhist services for peace held during the Lunar New Year 2020.  

In the formal note dated January 6, 2020 sent to the VBS’s executive committee in provinces and cities, the central VBS’s executive council requested pagodas, monasteries and dignitaries to organize praying ceremonies for peace and prospering in solemn and economic manners, and avoid deviant worshipping practices and superstitious activities including votive papers burning.

For preserving and promoting authentic Buddhist teachings, the central Buddhist Sangha’s executive council also asked Buddhist’s executive committee of provinces and cities to enhance the communication work so as to avoid using terms such as “astrological remedies” and “astrological remedies for karma reduction”, as well as encourage good deeds and charitable activities for cultivating merit and healthy lifestyles for improving people’s life.
