Most Venerable Thích Chơn Thiện said that the Party and State of Vietnam has promptly done its best for the people regarding the tragedy and urged people to keep calm under whatever circumstances.

As widely reported in Vietnamese press, Minister-Chairman of the Government Office Mai Tiến Dũng officially announced at a press conference held on June 30 that the Formosa Ha Tinh Steel company was the cause of massive fish deaths along the country’s central coast provinces of Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri and Thua Thien-Hue.

Hung Nghiep Formosa Ha Tinh Steel Limited Company has admitted and apologized to the Vietnamese Party, State, National Assembly, Government, Prime Minister, and people, especially the residents in the four central coastal provinces. The company also offered a total compensation of 11.5 trillion VND (equivalent to 500 million USD).

Formosa also promised to build a set of sustainable solutions to protect the maritime environment and install automatic monitoring equipment for testing emissions and the dust of emission discharge systems in the central region under the supervision of the relevant authorities.

Deputy Patriarch of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha Discernment Council Thích Chơn Thiện said "the Party and State has timely done all their responsibilities to the people. We completely put our faith upon the responsibility of the Party and State. We also hoped that Vietnamese people would trust the leadership of the Party and the State, without wavering on the allegations and distortion by external elements".

According to Thích Chơn Thiện, the VBS hoped that the Government would increasingly care about effects of the environment pollution caused by factories and businesses.

 Most Venerable Thích Chơn Thiện said wishing all people to keep calm under whatever circumstance given the leadership of the Party and State.
