The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s Executive Committee in Tien Giang province reviewed its performance 2019 and outlined plans of activities 2020 at a conference held on January 6 in Vinh Trang pagoda located in the province’s My Tho city.
The conference was chaired by Most Venerable Chairman of the VBS’s Executive Committee in Tien Giang Thích Huệ Minh and attended by members of the provincial VBS’s discernment committee, and heads of the VBS’s executive board from districts and cities in the province.
Guests at the event included Chairwoman of the Committee for Religious Affairs in the province Bùi Thị Mai.
As reported at the event, in 2019, contributions by Buddhist followers in Tien Giang to social charities for building of charitable houses, providing free medical examination for poor patients and supports to the disadvantaged, presenting wheelchairs to people with disabilities and gift sets to Agent Orange victims, and supporting education of underprivileged children, etc, is valued at over 64 billion VND.
On the occasion, the provincial authorities presented certificates of commendation to nine Buddhist groups and 12 individuals, and the provincial VBS’s executive committee presented certificates of merit to three Buddhist groups and 16 individuals, for their outstanding contributions to social charities in the province over the past years.
