The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s chapter in Nghe An province held on December 11 a ceremony for marking its 10th founding anniversary.
The event taking place in Vinh City saw the presence of Most Venerable Thích Thanh Đàm, Deputy Patriarch of the VBS; Most Venerable Thích Thanh Nhiễu, Standing Vice President of the VBS’s Central Executive Council cum Chairman of the VBS’s executive committee in Nghe An, and members of the central executive council and provincial VBS executive committee.
Guests at the event included Deputy Minister of Home Affairs in charge of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs Vũ Chiến Thắng, Chairman of Nghe An provincial People’s Committee Nguyễn Đức Trung, Chairwoman of the provincial Fatherland Front Committee Võ Thị Minh Sinh, and representatives from central and local concerning sectors and agencies.

As reported at the event, Nghe An province currently has 65 Buddhist pagodas with 100 monks and nuns, and about 168,000 lay Buddhists.
Over the past time, Buddhists in the province have launched many social and charity programs for sending relief to victims of natural calamities, building of over 100 charity houses for disadvantaged families in localities, contributions to the funds for the poor, orphans, people with disabilities, etc.
Speaking at the event, while highly appreciated practical contributions made by the VBS to the provincial socio-economic development and the Covid-19 prevention in the past two years, Chairwoman of the provincial Fatherland Front Committee Võ Thị Minh Sinh expressed hope that the VBS would continue promoting fine values of Buddhism, contributing to national construction and defense, and the social unity.

During the event, outstanding Buddhist individuals and groups were presented with certificates of merit by the Central VBS and certificates of recommendation by the Home Affairs Ministry, the provincial People’s Committee and the provincial Fatherland Front Committee.
