The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s Executive Board in Ha Tinh province’s Nghi Xuan district held on July 10 a solemn requiem for 20 heroic martyrs who sacrificed their life in Xuan Lien commune on July 12, 1968.
The event saw the participation of Abbot of Phong Phan pagoda Thích Viên Như, members of the VBS’s Executive Board in the district and large numbers of Buddhists and local people.
In 1966, Ha Tinh coast guard artillery group (C45) (now the provincial military command) was assigned to build a battlefield in Bai Dua, Cuong Thinh village, Xuan Lien commune to protect the coast. 20 soldiers of the group died on July 12, 1968 by bomb during a fight against American planes.
The event marked the 50th death anniversary of the heroic martyrs who sacrificed their life in Xuan Lien commune.
