VBS holds seminar on Truc Lam Zen Buddhism

The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) Central Committee for Buddhist Propagation in collaboration with the provincial VBS Executive Committee held a seminar on Truc Lam Zen Buddhism on December 10.

The seminar with the theme “Truc Lam Zen Buddhism- Convergence and Pervasiveness” is part of activities for commemorate the 707th anniversary of the pass away of King-Monk Trần Nhân Tông.

Truc Lam Zen Buddhism was established in 1299 by King Trần Nhân Tông (1258-1308) when he practiced Buddhism in Yen Tu mountain in Quang Ninh province. He had incorporated the three existing Buddhist Zen sects of Chinese origin: (Ty Ni Da Luu Chi (580), Vo Ngon Thong (820) and Thao Duong (1069)) into one new Vietnamese Zen tradition, known as Truc Lam Yen Tu Zen Buddhism (1299).

During the seminar, participants focused on analyzing and clarifying roles of the Tran dynasty and the influence of Truc Lam Zen Buddhism during the Tran dynasty and throughout Vietnam history, as well as contents and methods of the Truc Lam Zen propagation, ect…

In the same day, a ceremony was held at Tran Hung Dao Temple to pray for heroes who died in historic Bach Dang battle.
