The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) held a seminar on July 12 on the quality of Khmer Theravada Buddhist education at Candarassi Pagoda in Ho Chi Minh City.
The event held with the theme “Educational Quality of Khmer Theravada Buddhism - Realities and Solutions” was chaired by Most Venerable Vice Chairman of the VBS Executive Council Thích Giác Toàn, and attended by dignitaries of the VBS Discernment Council and the VBS’s Southern Office, representatives of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee, the Southwest Steering Committee, the Ministry of Public Security, and scholars from the Khmer Theravada Buddhist Institute.
The seminar focused on discussion of the present education of the Khmer Theravada Buddhism and measures for better meeting educational needs of the Khmer Theravada Buddhism and enhancing educational quality. Proposals recommended at the seminar included the establishment of an inter-municipal Palis Khmer intermediate school of Southeastern region and Ho Chi Minh City, and a similar school for provinces of Kien Giang and An Giang, following the model of the Palis Khmer Intermediate School in Tra Vinh province.
This event is part of an outlined program for celebrating the upcoming VBS’s 35th founding anniversary (November 7, 1981 – November 7, 2016) by the VBS Central Executive Council.
