VBS holds requiem for fallen soldiers, war death victims in Central Highlands

A grand requiem for heroic martyrs and those who lost their lives in the Central Highlands battles was held on April 29 at the Martyrs Cemetery in Đăk Lăk province.

The ceremony was co-organized by the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) Executive Council and the Vietnam Veterans Association on the occasion of the 41st anniversary of the National Reunification (April 30).

Attending the event included representatives of the Central government agencies and local authorities, the VBS Discernment Council and Executive Council, thousands of relatives of the martyrs’ families, families of war invalids, more than 600 veterans from 63 provinces, cities, and large numbers of Buddhist monks, nuns and followers across the country.

During the requiem, Buddhist monks, nuns and followers joint together in respect to honor those rendered meritorious services to the country and pray for the spiritual uplifting of fallen soldiers and war death victims in war battles.

Speaking at the ceremony, Director of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs’s Buddhist Affairs Department Bùi Hữu Dược regarded the event as an opportunity to show respect and gratitude to heroic martyrs, as well as reflect social integration of Buddhism in the Central Highlands region.
