VBS holds cultural exchange program on filial piety

On occasion of the Buddhist Parents Day Festival 2016 (B.E. 2560), the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) held a cultural exchange program with the theme “Filial piety and Nation” on August 11 at Hanoi Opera House.

The event saw participation of Most Venerable Chairman of the VBS Executive Council Thích Thiện Nhơn, Most Venerable Vice Chairman of the VBS Executive Council Thích Thanh Nhiễu and Most Venerable Chairman of the VBS’s Committee for Information and Communication cum Head of the Organization Board Thích Gia Quang, and large numbers of Buddhist dignitaries and followers in the city.

Distinguished guests at the event included Vice Chairman of the Central Party Committee’s Commission for Mass Mobilization Nguyễn Lam, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Lê Bá Trình and Chief Executive Vice Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) Bùi Thanh Hà.

In the opening speech, Most Venerable Thích Gia Quang stated that the program “Filial piety and Nation” carried the message of preserving and promoting the filial piety to people in the society.

Speaking at the event, Chief Executive Vice Chairman of GCRA Bùi Thanh Hà spoke highly of the VBS’s program and said this activity, together with requiem for fallen soldiers and prayers for peace often held by the VBS contributed to promote human values.

On the occasion of the Buddhist Parents Day Festival 2016, the Central VBS also published the book entitled “Examples of Filial Piety” and organized a writing contest on filial piety.
