On May 10, the Central Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) Executive Council held a conference on Buddhist affairs in Southern provinces at the Central VBS’s Southern office in Ho Chi Minh city.
Buddhist dignitaries attending the conference included Most Venerable Vice Patriarch of the Central VBS’s Discernment Council Thích Đức Nghiệp, Most Venerable Chairman of the Central VBS’s Executive Council Thích Thiện Nhơn, Most Venerable Chairman of Central Committee for Clergy Affairs Thích Thiện Pháp.
Vice Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs Trần Tấn Hùng, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee’s Department for Southern Affairs Võ Văn Thiện, and local authorities’ representatives also joint the conference.

The conference heard reports on Buddhist affairs in the first months of 2016, including the implementation of the Central Committee for Clergy Affairs’s regulations, guidance for organization of the provincial-level Buddhist Congress, preparation for Buddha’s Birthday Festival 2016 (B.E. 2560) and Summer retreat course 2016 (B.E. 2560), and draft plan for the 35th founding anniversary of the VBS (November 7, 1981 – November 7, 2016).
Speaking at the conference, Vice Chairman of the GCRA Trần Tấn Hùng hailed achievements and social, charitable contributions recorded by the VBS in the first months 2016. He also suggested the Central VBS to organize the Buddha’s Birthday Festival 2016 solemnly, safely and not affecting the general election of the National Assembly to be held on 22 May.
