VBS hold seminar on practices for sustainable development

The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s Central Committee for Buddhists’ Guidance held on July 28 a seminar on practices for sustainable development at Khai Nguyen pagoda located in Hanoi’s Son Tay district.

The seminar presided by Most Venerable Deputy General Secretary of the VBS’s Executive Council Thích Thanh Điện saw the presence of Most Venerable Vice President of the Central VBS’s Executive Council cum Chairman of the VBS’s Information and Communications Committee Thích Gia Quang, scholars, experts and over 2000 Buddhist followers.

State officials at the event included Former Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyễn Văn An, Colonel General Deputy Minister of the Public Security Ministry Nguyễn Văn Thành, Vice President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front’s Central Committee Ngô Sách Thực.

The seminar themed “Practices by Buddhists for sustainable development in the country” has received over 70 presentations papers from scholars, experts and state officials. Presentations and discussion at the seminar focused on the role of Buddhism in Viet Nam, current Buddhist engagement in contemporary issues, promotion of Buddhist values for peace and sustainable development in the country.

On the occasion, the VBS’s Standing Committee has presented certificate of merits to typical groups and individuals for their contributions to the seminar and the Buddhist Youth Summer Camp 2019 taking place in the pagoda.
