VBS General Secretary comments at NA session on national target program for sustainable poverty reduction

The 15th National Assembly held on July 27 a discussing session on   a national target program for sustainable poverty reduction for the 2021-2025 period.  

Speaking at the event, Seniour Venerable Thích Đức Thiện, General Secretary of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) and a NA deputy elected in the northern province of Dien Bien highly appreciated results of similar programs implemented in past years.

According to him, the national target program for sustainable poverty reduction has contributed to ensure people’s basic livelihood and promoting economic growth and sustainable development.

However, there are still many problems in the program implementation which the poverty reduction results have not been really sustainable, uneven, and with a high re-poor rate; the poverty reduction rate and levels of education achieved  and health services enjoyed by the mountainous ethnic minorities have still been low as compared to the general level, the senior venerable shared.

During the session, deputies presented many recommendations and proposed solutions on infrastructure, land and credit to help disadvantaged people escape poverty and improve living standards.

For a more effective implementation of the national target program for sustainable poverty reduction, Senior Venerable Thích Đức Thiện solutions, including the promotion of traditional and religious values of ethnic peoples, increased investments in infrastructure, as well as measures creating employment opportunities for people to improve their livelihoods and bring sustainable income, and better access to education, health and information services.
