The 9th congress of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) Chapter in Soc Trang province was held on March 22.
The congress discussed results of social – religious activities in the 8th term (2012-2017) and approved plans of activities for next term. Accordingly, Buddhist dignitaries and followers in Soc Trang province have contributed over VND 300 billion in social and charitable activities over the past five years.
The one-day congress elected 16 members to the provincial VBS Discernment Committee and 75 members to the provincial VBS Executive Committee for the 2017–2022 tenure with Most Venerable Tăng Nô elected as the Committee Chairman.
VBS Chapter presents 100 bicycles to poor pupils
On this occasion, the VBS Chapter handed over 100 bicycles to poor pupils in the locality. The provincial People Committee and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee authorities also presented certificates of merit to 15 Buddhist groups and 22 individuals for their outstanding contributions over the past term.
