The 5th congress of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) Chapter in Quang Nam province was successfully held on October 27.
Attending the congress were Most Venerable President of VBS’s Executive Council Thích Thiện Nhơn, Most Venerable Vice President of VBS’s Executive Council cum Chairman of the VBS’s Executive Committee in the province Thích Thiện Duyên and about 500 delegates representing monks, nuns and Buddhists in the locality.
Local guests attended the event included Chairman of the provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee Võ Xuân Ca, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Council Võ Hồng and Chairman of the provincial Committee for Religious Affairs Phan Thọ.
New VBS’s Executive Committee for the 2017-2022 tenure
The congress reviewed results and performances of the VBS Chapter’s Executive Committee in the province during the 4th term (2012-2017) and approved working plans for the 2017-2022 tenure.
The one-day event also elected 48 members to the VBS’s Executive Committee in the province for the 2017 – 2022 tenure with Most Venerable Thích Thiện Thành selected as the Committee Chairman.
As reviewed at the congress, Buddhism in Quang Nam province currently has 295 Buddhist worshipping places and Buddhist followers in the province have contributed VND 54 billion to social charities for the past five years.
