The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’ Executive Committee in Quang Binh province held on December 18 a ceremony to celebrate its 10th founding anniversary.
The event taking place at Dai Giac pagoda, Dong Hoi city saw the presence of Most Venerable Vice President of the VBS’ Executive Council Thích Thanh Nhiễu, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Trần Tiến Dũng and large numbers of Buddhist monks, nuns and lay Buddhists in localities.
Since its establishment, the VBS chapter in the province has achieved remarkable results including the reconstruction of Buddhist worshipping places in the province such as the pagodas of Kim Nai, Hoang Phuc, Dại Giac and the appointment of abbots and abbesses of the pagodas.
The provincial VBS’s executive committee set up the district-level executive board in four districts in the province.
In addition, the VBS chapter in the province often organized charity program for building charitable houses, providing monthly supports of money, rice, etc for more than 100 families, providing relief to localities in the province with natural disasters with the contributing value of tens of billion VND each year.
On the occasion, the VBS chapter in the province and Most Venerable Thích Tánh Nhiễu received certificates of commendation of the Prime Minister for their practical contributions in Buddhist affairs and social charities. Local authorities also presented certificates of merit to two Buddhist groups and three individuals for their contributions to the development of Buddhist culture in the province.
A seminar on Buddhist development in Quang Binh and photo Buddhist artifacts exhibition were also held on occasion of the 10th founding anniversary of the provincial VBS chapter.
