The provincial VBS’ congress saw the participation of Most Venerable President of the VBS Central Executive Council Thích Thiện Nhơn, Most Venerable Chairman of the VBS Chapter’s Executive Committee in the province Thích Đồng Tiến, and about 500 delegates representing Buddhists in the locality.

Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Phan Đình Phùng, Chairman of the provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee Nguyễn Quốc Hoàn and Deputy Director of the Southern Religious Affairs Department under the Government Committee for Religious Affairs Trà Quang Thanh were present at the opening ceremony of the event.

As reviewed at the congress, currently, Buddhism in Phu Yen province has over 248,000 followers with 257 Buddhist worshipping places. Buddhists followers in the province have contributed VND 14.7 billion to social and charitable activities for the past five years.

The one-day event elected 60 members to the VBS’s Executive Committee in the province for the 2017 – 2022 tenure with Most Venerable Thích Đồng Tiến selected as the Committee Chairman.
