VBS Chapter in Nghe An convenes 2nd congress

The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s Chapter in Nghe An province solemnly held its 2nd Buddhist congress on April 30 in the provincial city. 

Attending the congress were Most Venerable Executive Member of the VBS’s Discernment Council Thích Thanh Đàm and Most Venerable President of the VBS’s Executive Council Thích Thiện Nhơn, and over 500 monks, nuns and followers in the locality.

Distinguished guests at the event included Chief Executive Vice Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs Bùi Thanh Hà.

The 2nd Buddhist congress reviewed the VBS Chapter’s performance in the 2012-2017 period and approved working plans for the new tenure of 2017-2022, as well as selected 25 members to the new-term VBS’s Executive Committee in Nghe An province, with Most Venerable Thích Thanh Nhiễu reselected as the Committee Chairman. 

As reported at the event, during the past five years, about 50 Buddhist establishments were officially recognized by the provincial authorities. In addition, the VBS Chapter and pagodas in Nghe An province have encouraged locals and Buddhist followers to actively engage in social, charitable activities in the locality with a contributing value of over VND 25 billion for the past five years.

On the occasion, the VBS’s Chapter in Nghe An province presented VND 120 million for 20 eye surgeries for the poor in the province.
