VBS Chapter in Hai Duong convenes 8th congress

The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) Chapter in Hai Duong province convened on September 9 the 8th congress (2017-2022 tenure).

Attending the congress were Most Venerable Member of the VBS’s Discernment Council Thích Thanh Dục, Most Venerable Standing Vice President of the VBS’s Executive Council Thích Thanh Nhiễu, Most Venerable Vice President of the VBS’s Executive Council cum Head of the VBS’s Chapter in Hai Duong province Thích Quảng Tùng, Buddhist dignitaries from the VBS’s executive committee in Hai Duong and neighboring provinces, and large numbers of monks, nuns and followers in the locality.

Distinguished guests at the event included Deputy Minister of the Home Affairs Nguyễn Trọng Thừa, Chief Executive Vice Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs Bùi Thanh Hà.

The congress reviewed results of religious and social activities of the VBS Chapter in the province in the 2012-2017 term, as well as elected 35 members to the VBS Chapter’s Executive Committee for the 2017-2022 tenure, with Senior Venerable Thích Thanh Vân elected as the committee Chairman.

As reported at the event, the VBS’s Executive Committee in Hai Duong province has recorded many good results in Buddhist and social activities in the locality for the past five years, including the organization of three ordination conferences and summer retreat courses for monks and nuns, upgrade of Buddhist temples with a total fund of nearly VND 120 billions, and contribution of nearly 19 of billions of VND to social charities.
