The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s chapter in Ha Tinh province’s Nghi Xuan district convened on September 15 its 3rd congress for the 2021-2026 tenure.
The event taking place at Phong Phan pagoda located in the district’s Xuan An town saw the presence of Venerable Thích Hạnh Nhẫn, Vice Chairman of the VBS’s Executive Committee in Ha Tinh, members of the VBS executive board in Nghi Xuan, heads of Buddhist pagodas in the district, and representatives from local authorities.
Due to the complicated situation of the Covid-19, the congress was held with a modest scale and a strict implementation of the epidemic prevention measures.
As reported at the event, over the last tenure, the district VBS executive board in collaboration with monks, nuns, lay Buddhists and sponsors have launched many practical social charity programs with the total value of over 2.6 billion VND.
The congress elected a new 9-member executive board of the district VBS with Venerable Thích Viên Như reselected as head of the board.
Representatives from provincial authorities extend congratulatory flowers to the congress.
On occasion, five groups and 12 individuals were presented with certificates of merit by the VBS executive committee in the province; six groups and eight individuals were handed over certificates of recommendations from the district People’s Committee for their practical contribution to Buddhist affairs in the district during the 2016-2021 tenure.
The VBS chapter in Nghi Xuan district currently has 17 Buddhist worshipping places including one Zen monastery. The Buddhist chapter was the 6th amongst 13 VBS chapters in the province completing the congress for the 2021-2026 tenure.
