VBS Chapter in Ha Nam convenes 6th congress

The 6th congress of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) Chapter in Ha Nam province was successfully held on January 12.

Present at the event included Most Venerable Thích Thanh Đảm, Deputy Patriarch of VBS’s Discernment Council; Most Venerable Thích Thiện Nhơn, President of the VBS’s central Executive Council; Most Venerable Thích Thanh Quyết, Vice President of the VBS’s Executive Council cum Chairman of the provincial VBS’s Executive Committee; representatives from the VBS’s Executive Committees in provinces and cities of Hanoi, Nam Dinh, Ninh Binh, Hung Yen and Quang Ninh, the district-level VBS’s Executive Boards; and about 300 Buddhist monks, nuns and followers in the locality.

Guests at the event included Secretary of the provincial Party Committee cum Chairwoman of the provincial People’s Council Lê Thị Thủy, Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee Đinh Thị Lụa and Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Trần Xuân Dưỡng.

As reviewed at the congress, the VBS’s Executive Committee in Ha Nam province has spent about 10 billion VND on social charities for the past five years. In particular, in 2020 – 2021, Buddhist monks, nuns and followers in the province have raised funds and made practical contributions worth about six billion VND for supporting Vaccine Fund, presenting medical equipments, necessities to quarantine areas, offering medicines, food, clothes to people affected by floods in the Central region.

The event elected 56 members to the VBS’s Executive Committee in the province for the 2022 – 2027 tenure with Most Venerable Thích Thanh Quyết reselected as the Committee Chairman.

VBS Executive Committee in Ha Nam for 2022-2027 tenure makes its debut

On the occasion, five Buddhist groups and 11 Buddhist individuals have received certificates of merit from the VBS’s Central Executive Council; seven Buddhist groups and 22 individuals were awarded with certificates of recommendation from the provincial People’s Committee.
