The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) Chapter in Ha Giang province convened the 2nd congress for the 2017-2022 tenure on August 8.
Participating in the congress were Most Venerable President of the VBS’s Executive Council Thích Thiện Nhơn, Most Venerable Standing Vice President of the VBS’s Executive Council Thích Thanh Nhiễu, Most Venerable Vice President of the VBS’s Executive Council cum Head of the VBS Chapter’s Executive Committee in Ha Giang province Thích Gia Quang, and large numbers of monks, nuns and followers in the province.
Distinguished guests at the event included Director of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA)’s Department of Buddhist Affairs Bùi Hữu Dược and Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee in Ha Giang province Trần Đức Quý.
The congress discussed results of religious and social activities of the VBS Chapter in the first term and approved working plans for the 2017-2022 tenure, as well as elected 31 members to the VBS Chapter’s Executive Committee for the 2nd tenure, with Most Venerable Thích Gia Quang reelected as the committee Chairman.
As reported at the event, Buddhist monks, nuns and followers in the province contributed a total value of over VND 15 billion to social charities over the past five years.
