VBS Chapter in Ha Giang celebrates Vesak Day 2018

The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s Chapter in Ha Giang province held on May 15 a solemn ceremony to celebrate the Buddha’s Birthday 2018 (B.E. 2562).

The event taking place at Quan Am pagoda saw the participation of Most Venerable Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s Executive Council cum Head of the VBS Chapter in Ha Giang Thích Gia Quang, representatives from local authorities, and large numbers of monks, nuns, and followers in the locality.

The Buddha’s Birthday, known as Vesak Day, is one of most important Buddhist events, which is held annually on the 15th of the fourth lunar month to celebrate the birth of Gautama Shakyamuni Buddha.

The ceremony included the message of the VBS Supreme Patriarch on Vesak Day 2018 and performances of Buddhist rituals including incense offering, Buddha bathing ceremony and prayers for peace.

During the event, Most Venerable Thích Gia Quang also handed over ordination certificates of the VBS to Senior Venerable Deputy Head of the provincial VBS’s Executive Committee Thích Đồng Huệ.

On this occasion, the VBS Chapter in the province presented VND 60 million to the Fund for Poor, the Education Promotion, and Community Learning Center, each worth VND 20 million, and handed over 10 wheelchairs to people with disabilities.
