Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) Chapter in Gia Lai province successfully held the 5th congress on September 28.
The event saw the participation of Most Venerable President of VBS Executive Council Thích Thiện Nhơn, Most Venerable Chairman of the VBS Chapter’s Executive Committee in the province Thích Tâm Tường, and about 500 delegates representing Buddhists in the locality.
Local guests at the event included Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party’s Committee Châu Ngọc Tuấn, Chairwoman of the provincial People’s Committee Huỳnh Nữ Thu Hà and Chairman of the provincial Committee for Religious Affairs Hồ Hải Tần.
The congress reviewed religious activities of the VBS Chapter in the province during the 4th term (2012-2017) and approved working plans for the 2017-2022 tenure. The event also elected 61 members to the VBS’s Executive Committee in the province for the 2017 – 2022 tenure with Senior Venerable Thích Từ Vân selected as the Committee Chairman.
On the occasion, the provincial People’s Committee presented certificates of merit to the VBS Chapter’s Executive Committee in Gia Lai province for outstanding contributions to the socio-economic development in the locality over the past five years.
