VBS chapter in Dien Bien convenes 3rd congress

The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) chapter in Dien Bien province held on April 5 its 3rd congress (2022-2027 tenure).

The event taking place at the convention center in the province saw the presence of Most Venerable Thích Thiện Nhơn, President of the VBS’s Central Executive Council; Most Venerable Thích Thanh Nhiễu, Standing Vice President of the VBS’s Central Executive Council; Most Venerable Thích Bảo Nghiêm, Most Venerable Thích Thanh Quyết, Most Venerable Thích Quảng Hà, Vice Presidents of the VBS’s Central Executive Council; Senior Venerable Thích Đức Thiện, Vice President cum General Secretary of the VBS’s Central Executive Council, and 150 monks, nuns and lay Buddhists representing the VBS chapter in the province.

Guests at the event included Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) Vũ Hoài Bắc, Director of the Religious Affairs Department under the Vietnam Central Fatherland Front Committee (VFF) Nguyễn Văn Thanh, Director of the Religious Affairs Department under the Central Commission for Mass Mobilization Đinh Thị Xuân Trang, Deputy Secretary of Dien Bien provincial Party’s Committee Mùa A Sơn, and Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Lò Văn Tiến.

The one-day event reviewed Buddhist affairs of the VBS chapter in the 2017-2022 period and mapped out key plans for the next five years, as well as elected a 32-member executive committee for the 2022-2027 term with Senior Venerable Thích Đức Thiện re-elected as Head of the VBS executive committee in the province.

As reported at the event, during the 2017-2022 tenure, the VBS chapter in Dien Bien has made practical contributions to social charities, such as daily presenting free meals to disadvantaged patients since 2017, supporting the construction of 80 charity houses, building 6km of concrete inter-village road in Thanh Nua commune, and form school facilities and classrooms in the locality.

In addition, the VBS chapter has also launched annual fish release and presented 10,000 seedling trees to the tree planting program in the locality.

On the occasion, the new VBS executive committee in Dien Bien presented 500 charity houses and one school facility to the provincial VFF.
