The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s Chapter in Da Nang city convened its 5th congress for the 2017-2022 term on June 3 in Hai Chau district with the participation of over 1,000 delegates representing monks, nuns and followers in the locality.
Guests at the event included Most Venerable President of the VBS’s Executive Council Thích Thiện Nhơn and Chairman of the city People’s Committee Huỳnh Đức Thơ.
The congress reviewed performances of the VBS Chapter during the 4th term and approved working plans for the 2017-2022 tenure. The event also elected 53 members to the new-term VBS Chapter’s Executive Committee for the 2017-2022 tenure, with Most Venerable Thích Chí Mãn nominated as the Committee Chairman.
Speaking at the congress, Chairman Huỳnh Đức Thơ spoke highly of achievements obtained by the city VBS’s Executive Committee over the past years and called on local Buddhists to promote its fine traditions, contributing to social stability and development in the city.
On this occasion, Chairman Huỳnh Đức Thơ presented a certificate of merit to the city VBS’s Executive Committee for its social and charitable contributions during the 2012-2017 term.
