On July 15, the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s Executive Committee in Cao Bang province solemnly held its 3rd congress for the 2017-2022 tenure at the province’s convention center.
The congress drew the participation of Most Venerable President of the VBS’s Executive Council Thích Thiện Nhơn, Most Venerable Standing Vice President of the VBS’s Executive Council Thích Thanh Nhiễu, Most Venerable Vice President of the VBS’s Executive Council Thích Gia Quang, members from the Northern Office of the VBS’s Executive Council, representatives from the VBS’s executive committee in neighboring provinces of Thai Nguyen, Tuyen Quang, Lang Son, Son La, Yen Bai, Ha Giang and Hanoi city, and over 400 delegates representing monks, nuns and followers in the locality.
Distinguished guests at the event included Chairman of Cao Bang provincial People’s Council Đàm Văn Eng, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyễn Trung Thảo and representatives of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs.
The congress discussed results of religious and social activities of the VBS Chapter in the province in the 2012-2017 term, including conversion of over 1000 new Buddhists, upgrade of Buddhist temples and contribution of tens of billions of VND to social charities for the poor, etc.
The congress also elected 28 members to the new-term VBS’s Executive Committee in Cao Bang province with Most Venerable Thích Gia Quang reelected as the committee’s Chairman.
On this occasion, the provincial VBS Executive Committee received certificates of merit from the Prime Minister and Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee for its practical contributions during the 2nd tenure.
