VBS chapter in Bac Ninh reviews six-month Buddhist affairs

The Executive Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) chapter in Bac Ninh province reviewed its six-month performance at a meeting held on June 10 in Bac Ninh city. The event taking place at Dai Thanh pagoda was chaired by Senior Venerable Thích Thanh Phụng, Chairman of the provincial VBS committee, and attended by members of the executive committee. Guests at the event included Acting Chairman of the provincial Committee for Religious Affairs Chu Quang Hảo. As reported at the event, in the first six months of 2020, the VBS’s executive committee in Bac Ninh province recorded good results in Buddhist affairs such as successful organizations of festivals, including the Buddha Birthday Festival, and strict implementations of Prime Minister’s directions for preventing Covid-19 pandemic by suspending all large Buddhist gatherings. According to the VBS committee, nine monks and nuns have been ordained as abbots and abbesses of pagodas in the province for the first half 2020. Regarding social charities, the provincial VBS chapter have presented 2,427 gift sets valued at over 1.368 billion VND in total to local disadvantaged households on occasion of the traditional Lunar New Year 2020, donated cash and health equipments valued at 416 million VND to the Covid-19 prevention and control work, and set up two free Rice ATMs and presented necessities to workers facing difficulties due to the epidemic with the contributing value of at 2.1 billion VND.
