The Executive Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) Chapter in Bac Lieu province reviewed its six-month performance at a meeting held on July 3 at Long Phuoc pagoda in the province’s Bac Lieu city.
Attending the event were Most Venerable Ly SaMouth and Most Venerable Member of the VBS Discernment Council Hữu Hinh, members of the VBS’s Executive Committee in the province and representatives from the VBS executive board in the province’s districts.
Local guests at the event included Head of Ethnic – Religious Department under the provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee Đinh Văn Mãnh and Head of Professional Division under the provincial Committee for Religious Affairs Danh Chính Nghĩa.
As reported at the one-day event, Bac Lieu province currently has 180 operative Buddhist pagodas with 666 monks and nuns. For the first six months of 2018, the history of 15 pagodas in the province has been edited and over 14 billion VND has been spent on reconstruction of pagodas. The provincial VBS’s has also contributed over VND 14.5 billion to social charities in the locality for the first half of the year 2018.
Earlier, the VBS’s Executive Committee in the province also held on July 2 the groundbreaking ceremony to build its headquarters based in Long Phuoc pagoda.
As planned, the office building of the VBS executive committee in the province will be built on area of 830 m2 at an estimated cost of nearly eight billion VND.
