The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s Chapter in Bac Giang province convened its 5th congress for the 2017-2022 term on August 1.
Attending the event were Most Venerable Deputy Secretary of VBS Discernment Council Thích Thanh Dũng, Vice President of the VBS’s Executive Council Thích Thanh Nhiễu, representatives from the VBS’s executive committee in Northern provinces and cities and nearly 500 delegates representing monks, nuns and followers in the locality.
Local guests at the event included Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyễn Văn Linh and representatives from the provincial Catholic Solidarity Committee and local authorities.
The congress focused on discussion of results of social, religious activities of the Buddhist Chapter in the province in the 4th term (2012-2017) and outlined working plans for next term. The event also elected 25 members to the new-term VBS Executive Committee in the province for 2017-2022 tenure, with Senior Venerable Thích Thiện Văn reelected as the Committee Chairman.
On this occasion, local authorities presented certificates of merit to Buddhist groups and individuals for their social and charitable contributions during the 2012-2017 term.
