Meeting all natural and cultural criteria, Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex was recognized as the world cultural and natural heritage by UNESCO and became the first dual world heritage in Vietnam.
The 38th session of the World Heritage Committee in Doha, Quatar announced that Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex became the world cultural and natural heritage according to criteria of cultural, aesthetic values and geological, geomorphology values. So, Trang An became the first dual world heritage in Vietnam
Trang An is located in Ninh Binh province, in the southern shore of the Red River delta. Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex consists of 3 major conservation places: the Special National Relic - Hoa Lu Ancient Capital; Scenic Trang An - Tam Coc - Bich Dong and Hoa Lu Forest. The total area of the complex is 4,000ha embracing all of Trang An limestone block and is surrounded by a buffer zone of 8,000 ha, consisting mainly of rice fields.
Vietnam has 5 world cultural heritages recognized by UNESCO, including the imperial city of Hue, Hoi An Old Quarters, My Son Holy land, Thang Long Royal Citadel and the Citadel of the Ho Dynasty. Besides, there are 2 world natural heritages including Halong Bay and Phong Nha – Ke Bang national park.
In addition UNESCO has recognized 8 world intangible heritages in Vietnam namely: Hue Royal court music; cultural space of gongs in the Central Highlands region; Bac Ninh Folk Songs in northern Bac Ninh and Bac Giang provinces; the ceremonial singing, the Giong festival in Phu Dong and Soc temples; Xoan singing; the worshipping of Hung King and the Southern folk music.
