Tien Giang: Vinh Kim Caodai commune inaugurates a Mother Buddha worshipping sanctuary

04/29/2014

On April 23, 2014, the Managing Board of Vinh Kim Caodai commune in Tien Giang province held a ceremony to inaugurate the Mother Buddha Worshipping Sanctuary. Attending the ceremony were the Church’s delegation led by Bishop Thượng Tám Thanh and representatives of local authorities, and about 1000 Caodai followers inside and outside the commune.

The Vinh Kim Caodai commune was established in 1947 and a Mother Buddha sanctuary was constructed in mid 1950 by makeshift materials.  After more than 50 years, the sanctuary became downgraded, no longer suitable for developing religious activities in the locality, and due to its floor was below the road surface, the sanctuary was often flooded in the rain season.

In early 2010 (Tiger Lunar Year), the Managing Board of Vinh Kim Caodai commune submitted an application for approval to reconstruct the Mother Buddha sanctuary. Thanks to favorable conditions created by local authorities, the brick-laying ceremony was held on July 23, 2010 and the statue-placing ceremony was taken place on May 3, 2013./.
