In the morning of May 14th, 2014 at the Hue Dang lecture hall of Vinh Trang Pagoda, My Phong Village Tien Giang province, the Executive Board of the provincial Vietnam Buddhist Sangha solemnly held the opening ceremony for Buddhist summer retreat 2014 – B.E. 2558.
The opening ceremony was chaired by Most Venerable Thích Hoằng Đức, Member of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha Executive Council, and attended by dignitaries of the provincial Discernment Council, Buddhist monks and nuns from the Buddhist Executive Board of ten districts and 462 participants.
Representatives from the local government at the ceremony included Mr. Huỳnh Văn Phương- Chairman of the provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front; Mrs. Bùi Thị Mai, Vice Chairman of the provincial Committee for Religious Affairs and officials from My Tho municipal departments and My Phong commune.
According to the Organizing Committee, the summer retreat 2014 - B.E. 2558 are held in four places: two places for monks and nuns and the other places for students of the Buddhist preliminary school, with total of 462 participants.
Earlier, on May 13rd 2014, the provincial Buddhist Executive Board successfully held the Vesak Celebration B.E.2558 and Mr. Nguyễn Văn Khang - Chairman of Tien Giang People's Committee attended and delivered a congratulatory message at the event.
