As part of the “Great national solidarity – Vietnam’s cultural heritage” week taking place in the Culture-Tourism Village for Vietnamese Ethnic Groups from November 18 to 23, a group of the Tay ethnic community from Lang Son province has performed Then Singing, the unique traditional ceremony of the ethnic group in Vietnam.

Then singing festival is an indispensable part in the spiritual life of Tay ethnic. The Then shaman is often a prestigious figure in the community who can perform all spiritual rites.
The Then shaman initiates rite asking the deity to enter his physical body.
The shaman distributes amulets and red strings to people for bringing luck and keeping evils away.
